Fall & winter maintenance tips for the Titan Telescoping Flagpole

What do you do with your flagpole in the fall and heading towards winter? Today we’re sharing some basic tips for fall/winter maintenance for your Titan Telescoping Flagpole.

Basic cleaning

If you live in an area where there’s a lot of sand, or dirt, like on a farm, you may want to take the pole apart to clean the interlocking sleeves. This will help ensure you continue to have a smooth experience raising and lowering your pole.

Rain typically does some of this cleaning for you throughout the year, but making a plan to clean in the spring and fall can be a proactive approach to maintenance.

“Up or Out”

If you aren’t planning on running your pole through the winter, don’t just drop it! It’s better to remove the pole completely, or leave it fully extended. This is because if there’s any chance that you have a water undercurrent and that the water could come up inside the base of the pole, that water could freeze. If this happens, the ice will enlarge and expand the pipe. We don’t want that!

This is why we encourage customers to either leave the flag “up” (fully extended), or “out.”

Storing your pole

For people who are cottagers and won’t be around all year to enjoy their flagpole, don’t forget about your pole as you close up the cottage! At this time you can also store your flag, which will give it a longer life as well.

When storing your flag, make sure to clean the flag off and dry it if there’s any condensation on it. You can also take the pole out completely to store it. A red cap is provided when you first order your pole that can be used to cover the hole so no debris, animals, or dirt can get inside the base during the winter.
